Origins

From Asia to Hawaii

Each year the kolea bird leaves Asia and flies thousands of miles, returning to the exact spot in Hawaii it came from. Like the bird, the restaurant Kolea celebrates this pattern of migration through modern South East Asian cuisine with a Pacific rim twist.

About

After years of extensive travel to places like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia, we are excited to bring these unique and unexpected flavors to Maui. The culinary traditions of Hawaii have long had a clear Asian influence. By celebrating and building on these customs, Kolea blends traditional methods with modern cooking techniques, creating something uniquely Hawaiian.

BABA NYONYA

Rich spices, complex flavors

The old Malay word nyonya, a term of respect and affection for women of prominent social standing (part “madame” and part “auntie”), has come to refer to Peranakan cuisine. The Peranakans were descendants of early Chinese migrants in South East Asia, who blended their cooking with local traditions as well as methods of fellow Indian migrants. The resulting blend of rich spices and complex flavors are the perfect backdrop for a refreshed Pacific rim experience.

KOLEA BAR

Drinks of the Pasifik

Our Asian-inspired signature drinks range from tropical to urbane and are made with fresh squeezed juices, local spirits and sodas, and Maui grown fruits and herbs. Refreshing and crisp, each drink is a unique rendition of classic cocktails like the Muay Tai (mai tai), Shiso-jito (mojito), or Singapore Swing (Singapore sling). With a laid back atmosphere and extensive list of spirits, beers, and wines, our drinks are the perfect accompaniment to your dinner.
